Vacation on the fly ...

Our summer vacation this year has been up in the air, undecided, not set in stone, you get the picture. We're still trying to pay for our summer vacation of 2005! Yikes, not good.

But I HAVE to go somewhere on vacation; I need something to look forward to, count down to. We were planning on maybe doing a short, close, cheap vacation to a nearby location. Only Biloxi (where we used to go every year when the girls were little) has been done in, in large part by Katrina, as has our other preferable close vacation spot, New Orleans. Houston is close, but we did a Texas vacation last year. We were thinking about Arkansas, but it's still a long drive through all of North Louisiana.

So, after seeing a Universal Studios TV commercial about kids staying and playing for free, I decided to check it out via the internet. Sure enough, for every adult ticket purchased at Universal Studios Orlando, you get a child's ticket free. AND not only that, with the purchase of a 2-day ticket, you get 3 more days free! Woo-hoo. 5 days at Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure for 200 bucks total. For the whole family! That got me looking into hotels. . . I went to my favorite, Priceline (name your own price) and found a hotel room at a Radisson right near Univ. Studios for get this, $45 a night! The thing with Priceline name your own price, is once it finds your hotel, it books it, charges your card, it's done. No turning back.

So, here I sit with an Orlando vacation booked. Only I hadn't checked with Mark at all. Whoops. My bad.

But there is a good ending to the story. I talked to him, he's up for it. We're in. We even get to visit with Uncle Keithy and Aunt Emily (Mark's brother and sister-in-law) who live with Mickey Mouse in Orlando. Bonus!

So, I went from no vacation to total vacation in an hour's time.

Now, I'm counting down the days. 40, as of tomorrow!

AWESOME!!!
Sometimes that's just the way you gotta do it....otherwise you'll just put it off until it's too late.
So good for you!!! I bet the kids are excited!

We are doing the Orlando thing at Christmas....a little more than 40 days away so I haven't started a countdown yet! ;)

I hope y'all have a MAGICAL time!!!

I would love to go on vacation.....but we never seem to have any extra money and then there is the problem of what to do with the dog; take her with us or ask a family member to keep her. But maybe at our age, vacations aren't as important!

Enjoy your upcoming trip to Orlando!!

What a great deal! I know you are counting down the days! We just went on a weekend trip last fall with the girls and I am ready to go to the beach later this summer!

Way to go! You had on your travel agent hat and there was no stopping you!

That's the thing, though, with online booking. When the window's open and your reservations are online, you need to go ahead and DO IT or risk having the session time out.

Glad it all worked out -- can't wait to hear about your adventures! We're going to Disneyland in a couple of weeks. Hope it's fun for the little kids, too.
