Mary Kay is not my friend

My mom hosted a Mary Kay make-up party at her house yesterday. I brought the girls with me. Observe Anna below. She looks about as excited as I was about going to this shindig. Let me just say, I'm not a make-up person. Maybe I need lots of it but I just can't bring myself to spend too much time or money on it. It took everything I had to fork over $38 for a lipstick, a lip gloss, and a tiny tube of concealer. All I could think of is how much loot I could have purchased at Wal-Mart with 38 bucks!

The main reason I go to these things is the FOOD. We had finger sandwiches, cocktail sausage, lots of chips and dips and some homemade petitfours. Yum.

I DID learn about all of the make-up, moisturizers, concealers, creams, and miracle products that I could be buying. Only I'm too cheap. And I don't care all that much if I look like an oily, wrinkly old hag. Not exactly the prime Mary Kay target market.

So, I'm happy that it's over. I'm sporting my Apricot Shimmer (glimmer, glaze, whatever it was called) lipstick today and feeling like a million bucks! Without having to spend it.

No more Mary Kay for me for a while. I've met my quota for this decade.

I avoid those parties at all cost, there is really nothing about them that I like. Like you I really just hate spending so much money, and usually it is really only because I don't want to hurt my friends feelings.

From one wally-world shopper to another: yeah you right! ;)

Do they still give out thos pink Cadilacs to the high sellers?

Carrie,
Yes, they do still have the cadillacs, although I'm guessing you have to sell a shitload of beauty products to score one of those babies!

I'm with ya. Although I do like my lipstick. But not too much else.

Okay, skin care. And base because I NEED it. And brow liner because mine are so wimpy...

Okay, okay. According to your picture, you already look GOOD especially if that is without makeup.

Me, not so much. : )

I have committed to go to one my daughter is giving on Feb 11. I know I will not buy much though. I do use their mascara and their blush, Avon's base, and cover girl powder and Merle Norman eyebrows. What a mixture! I love Mary Kay's Dreams lotion though. It's wonderful. Oh and the cadillacs are now a silvery champagne color.

I would DIE without my Mary Kay products!!!!
I'm a makeup whore (or high maintenance, which ever you choose)

My best friend was a MK consultant for three years and so being the fabulous friend that I am :) I used/bought it to help her out. By the time she quit...it was too late, I was addicted and obsessed.

I found a new consultant to fulfill my fix when needed. And let me just tell ya, I wish $38 was ALL I spent everytime!

I'm not much into those either. I love going to home parties simply for the awesome food. All that specialty food that you don't make yourself at home.
A litte mascara and eye shadow and I'm good to go. I have my hands on my face way too much during the day to wear anything else. Plus I have no clue how to put that other fancy makeup on.
I've heard that Mary Kay is at least a 50% markup anyhow.
I'm good with whatever is either on sale or advertised at Walmart or Target.

Hey, I love that stainglass window behind the sink. Awesome!
(Also that cute young lady standing in front of it.)

I have had friends and family go down every road in make-up sales and of course I had to hear about every one of them and how "wonderful" they are. I am still using my Wal-mart purchased Oil of Olay and Almay products.

Mercy, I'm with you. I would have rather jammed bamboo splinters under my nails than have had to go that party.

You are a good sport, I would have left the Apricot Shimmer right there, lol!!

I know what you mean. I don't wear makup often, at all! I love going to those party for the same reason you do, only I don't bring Mary because she would beg me for stuff!

Wow, they still have Mary Kay? How about Avon?

I used to sell Mary Kay!!!
and yes it is really expensive and you would die at the mark up prices!!!
I do like their foundation however and they do have some great tips. Avon make up is soooo much cheaper (I also use to sell Avon, now I buy it off my mom who sells it still) and it is good.

The only makeup I where every day is lipstick and sometimes mascara. The only time that I where more than that is if I'm going somewhere I think I should where it. If that makes any sense.

I only where lipstick every other day and mascara when I feel like it, If I am wearing anything else, then it's a special occasion.

I was about Anna's age when I went to my first Mary Kay party. I think I left there looking like a--how do you say it?--"cheap whore." I don't think the lady selling it understood how to use it. I've since been to several other Mary Kay parties and they've been okay, although I'm not big on her products.

Whose kitchen is that?! It's crazy cool.

I'm with ya all the way! Wal-mart it is for me. I'm not much of a make-up person. Lipstick is about it, but I do spend a lot on it. The lipfinity is not cheap but it lasts ALL day!

And I'm here to tell you, the one person that commented on buying a lot of it, is the ONE person I know that does NOT NEED it! (Yes Ches, I'm talking about you ;)
